About the role

Trailstone is looking for a Meteorologist to join our team in Austin, Texas. This role reports to our Head of Weather Analytics and will work closely with traders and analysts in support of energy trading and renewable asset management operations. This is an excellent opportunity to play a role in a live trading environment in a weather-driven market.


What will you do?

  • Interpret meteorological data in real time to formulate short range forecasts for US geographies
  • Proactively identify and alert energy traders of impactful weather events through written reports and impromptu verbal discussion
  • Interpret weather forecasts and events in terms of their effects on renewable generation and electrical power demand
  • Participate in the development of weather data-enabled software tools to support manual and automated daily trading
  • Collaborate with other members of the weather team to share ideas and improve forecasts
  • Educate traders on weather and be available for questions
  • Deliver concise, understandable, and accurate forecasts


What do you need?

  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Meteorology or related field
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and aptitude for solving new problems
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Strong technical/programming experience is a plus (Python preferred)
