Congestion Trading Manager, North America

 

About the Role 

Trailstone is looking for a Congestion Trading Manager to join us onsite in our Austin, Texas office. The selected candidate will operate under the direct supervision of the Head of NA Power Trading. In the early months of this role, this individual will be responsible for hiring and managing a team of 2 to 3 congestion traders. This position will play a pivotal role in developing our US power congestion trading desk and supporting our renewable asset management business.

This will be a full-time permanent role owning the following responsibilities: 

• Develop and implement trading strategies related to power congestion in areas such as ERCOT, PJM, SPP, MISO, CAISO, NE-ISO, NY-ISO. 
• Monitor energy markets to identify trading opportunities and to remain updated on market conditions. 
• Manage and mitigate risk associated with congestion trading activities. 
• Collaborate with analytical and other trading teams to calibrate and improve our power flow models and enhance their value on trading decisions. 
• Build, develop and manage the congestion trading team alongside our growth plan for 2024 and beyond. 
• Stay updated on industry trends and regulatory changes. 

 

About You

The successful candidate will be a primary contributor to our risk management and portfolio optimization in our proprietary trading activities. As such we are looking for someone with the following attributes and tangible experiences:

Essential Qualifications: 

• Over 5 years of experience in the energy industry with experience trading congestion. 
• Demonstrated leadership experience, capable of managing and mentoring a team. 
• Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. 

Set Yourself Apart with:

• A Bachelor's degree or advanced degree on a quantitative discipline; e.g Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Economics, Finance or Engineering.
• Coding skills with SQL and python.
• Power modeling skills are recommended. 
• Experience with renewable generation
