Associate Financial Accountant

About the Role

We are looking for an Associate Financial Accountant to join our growing global financial department. This role will join a team of professionals working to maintain order and transparency for the company’s finances. As an Associate-level position, this role is an ideal opportunity for someone at the start of their career looking to apply academic knowledge into a commercial working environment.

This role will be based in our London office (London Wall, City), working in a hybrid pattern of 3-days per week on-site and 2-days per week at home.

This will be a full-time role with a structured training period to up-skill this individual before fully embedding within our accounting team. This person should expect the opportunity to learn and the support to deliver the following responsibilities from day one:

  • Assist legal-entity Controllers in order to manage business transactions across the UK, Japan and France. In time, gaining exposure to UK GAAP, IFRS, US GAAP, French GAAP & Japanese GAAP.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly cash reconciliations for general and subsidiary bank accounts by gathering and balancing information.
  • Post cash and accounts payable transactions to the ledger, and assist with expense reviews.
  • Assist with month-end close activities, including but not limited to balance sheet reconciliation, substantiation and preparation of journal posting files.
  • Update financial data in databases to ensure that information will be accurate and immediately available when needed.
  • Assist with external audit engagements.
  • Assist in the continued development of Finance and Accounting systems and procedures.

In time, we also expect this individual to attain and develop the following knowledge and experience, in the pursuit of true career progression:

  • Ability to perform margin and collateral posting, as well as cashflow and daily excess reporting for external counterparties.
  • Knowledge of the inner workings of operational finance within a merchant trading house.
  • On the job training within renewables, power and gas commodity markets.

 

About You

This person will be at the beginning of their accounting career, looking to apply their academic knowledge and gain international accounting experience within a dynamic commercial environment.

In addition, we are looking for somebody with the following:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fields. 
  • Comfortable using MS Office Applications, such as Excel which will be used daily in this role.
  • Excellent organisational abilities, willing to manage large sets of financial data.
  • Good with numbers and figures, high analytical acumen.
  • Ability to balance the initiative required for autonomous working, accountability for continued learning and a team-focused mindset.
  • Japanese language skills would also be highly desirable in order to support our operations in Japan.
